This was what our 5 day itinerary consisted of; note we had long days, usually waking up between 7 and 8 and hitting the road by 9 am at the latest. We would go until about 7 or 8 at night. We did not make official lunch break or dinner stops.
Full Day 1: (arrived LATE the night before)
Explore Reykjavik – more than enough time for us. We could’ve easily done Blue Lagoon this night, or taken a hike in the afternoon nearby Reykjavik
Day 2: staying in Reykjavik
Golden Circle
Hverageroi: Reykjadalur Steam Valley River Hike
Blue Lagoon
Day 3: depart Reykjavik for Vik (staying near Vik)
Seljalandsfoss Waterfall
Skogafoss Waterfall
Skogafoss Hike
Myrdalsjokull Glacier
Dyrholaey Arch
Reynisdrangar
Day 4: South east side of Iceland
Fjaoragljufur
Eldhraum
Skaftafell
Svartifoss Waterfall
Jokulsarlon
Vatnajokull
Diamond Beach
Day 5: leave Iceland (drive back from Vik to Reykjavik)
Gerduberg Basalt Columns
If we left earlier, could’ve done:
Hraunfossar Waterfall
We were planning to:
Drive by Helka (volcano) but it wasn’t a clear day so we did not think this would be worth it as it was out of the way
Hike Mount Esja – it was pouring when we arrived at the beginning so we decided to drive further up the west coast to kill some time
